Here’s Why Architectural Models are Important

There are several things that make architectural models extremely interesting. If you are a regular person with absolutely no background on architectural model making, you may just wonder in awe at how exquisitely a house, a ship, a building, or a landscape was scaled into a tiny cute model. But architects create them not only as a marketing tool but more importantly, as a guidance and a legal documentation in the building process.

In case you are wondering, an architectural model in a nutshell, is a miniature three dimensional representation used to show physical images of an object in a much smaller scale. Some of the other most common uses of these are below:

  1. Three dimensional visualization. Years ago, architects use a flat blue print to show a project layout. While this is not a problem for them, people in general will have difficulty visualizing how a building, let’s say, would look like. With a three dimensional architectural model, it is easier for both project managers and regular people to imagine what the project looks like in real life and stir some sort of excitement to potential patrons.

  2. Effective sales tools. If your scale model draws attention already, imagine how enticed people will be upon seeing the real deal—especially for constructions such as shopping malls, parks, residential buildings, and the likes. Showing people how a place would look in a miniature version can help them consider visiting or even better, investing in the place.

  3. Attract potential investors. If the architectural model is built well enough that it showcases the potentials of your project, then again, it might be the best way to attract potential investors. What’s even better is if this is a public project, you might attract donors, too! Use a model to communicate how the construction will help attain your causes.

  4. Useful reference point. In the absence of a digital location map on the actual finished site for example, an architectural model might come in handy. Remember, it is a miniature version of the building itself so you can definitely use it to locate the entrances, exits, or maybe even adjacent buildings you are looking for.

  5. Construction permit requirement. That’s right. For a construction to push through, it has to go through an approval process which includes the presentation of an architectural model to the regulators. This will help them assess how the areas surrounding the site will be affected and also contributes in expediting the procedure.

Again, no matter what type of product you are selling, a scale model can help build its success. It helps both your team and your target clients to understand the final output of the project and achieve a lot more. If you think these benefits apply to your company’s next project, then an architectural model might be a good investment for you. But remember that scale models are not for all types of project so don’t forget to evaluate how this can be advantageous for you.
